Sunday times means busy pub

A Northumberland pub has been named one of the top in the nation by The Sunday Times. A recent review placed The Barrsaford Arms, Barrasford, near Hexham (pictured above), at number 12 in a list of the 25 best country pubs that serve food. It took owner-chef Tony Binks by complete surprise and staff had to turn away more than 30 requests for bookings on the following Saturday with a similar number being disappointed for Sunday lunch.

“We were pretty full up anyway,” says Tony, “but lo and behold, the review just turned up. It shows what that sort of exposure can do. It’s nice to be recognised. The phone was red-hot for days after, and we’re chuffed to bits.”

Tony also reports that June and July this year marked the best summer ever for the 19th Century, traditional pub and sales have gone up 10% over the last two years while bookings remain high for the pub’s selection of double, twin and single en-suite accommodation.
