Our cartoonist’s a big draw

John Longstaff, the artist responsible for our exclusive cartoon The Pickled Egg (see page 30), has been hanging around a lot lately.

His current solo exhibition at Darlington’s Crown Street Art Gallery not only features some of the funnies he has been responsible for over the years in the likes of Private Eye, but includes many delightful paintings and drawings that demonstrate his undoubted ability. John – also known as Cluff – has drawn the daily pocket cartoon in The Northern Echo since 1990, invariably with a keen insight into the day’s news and always with an enviable, waspish wit.

Cluff paintings, Drawings and Cartoons runs until November 13 – open normal library hours.
