Good things for those who wait

The Waiting Room at Durham Station – northbound, platform 2 – is now fully open for long stays and brief encounters. Standards are high in the grade II-listed building as can be seen from this selection of photographs. Owner Graeme Robinson invited Collective Design to handle the design work and the resultant attention to detail shows why the Newcastle company has won multiple awards for its work.

Graeme says: “You need to have the right people on board to pull a contract like this together. We exceeded expectations in week one, so I’m very happy with the way things are going. We’ve got a great mix of commuters and locals, plus railway buffs and real ale buffs. The local community has really embraced it.”

The Waiting Room was supported by a grant from the Railway Heritage Trust.
