Flushed with success

The new toilets at The Schooner in Gateshead are something to sing about  to the extent that regular band Big Ray & The Hipthrusters performed the opening ceremony by cramming into the gents’ and treating customers to a selection of tunes. Schooner owners Dave and Julie Campbell marked the occasion with a brass plaque inscribed: “I’m a bog for you baby”.

Over the summer the pub on South Shore Road has been running charity events, such as the Rock ’n’ Roll Bike Ride in aid of Daft As A Brush cancer charity and Crohn’s & Colitis UK.

“We’re currently running at £5,028 which is amazing,” says Julie. “We’re really chuffed with the amounts people have managed to get in donations and sponsorship. Thank you all very, very much.”
