Last month’s Gateshead Beer & Cider Festival, held at the town’s rugby club, pulled off something of a coup by hosting the Society of Independent Brewers (SIBA) northern region cask beer competition. An intense day of blind tastings eventually came up with a terrific list of Gold, Silver and Bronze winners.
Here are the region’s top dogs in 25 categories (the northern region stretches across all the Yorkshire counties down to Hull):
